Brad Barnett, MD, PhD is the founder and medical director of California LASIK & Eye. He was attracted to ophthalmology, as people recognize their own symptoms prior to coming to visit him. This creates a unique relationship in which patient and clinician are mutual partners in achieving health goals.
Dr. Barnett completed his medical degree, a PhD in Pharmacology, as well as an Ophthalmology residency at Johns Hopkins. After completing a fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at UC San Diego, he became a Professor of Ophthalmology in the Cornea Division at Duke University. At Duke, his primary focus was on complex anterior segment reconstruction surgeries. Deciding to focus more on refractive surgery, fittingly in 2020, Dr. Barnett joined NVISION. In 2021, he founded California LASIK & Eye, to fully execute his vision of a streamlined premium refractive surgery experience.
Dr. Barnett prides himself on providing transformative, up-to-date, safe and effective treatments. He is wholly committed to achieving the visual goals of his patients using the latest LASIK surgery techniques including laser assisted LASIK surgery with premium intraocular lenses to treat presbyopia and astigmatism. He is well versed in the most advanced vision correction surgery techniques such as Implantable contact lenses, LASIK, PRK, and SMILE. He also treats glaucoma utilizing a variety of minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. For patients with dry eye syndrome, he performs TearCare thermal pulsation and meibomian expression. Dr. Barnett also utilizes the latest topical therapies including biologics, such as serum tears and Prokera, to optimize the ocular surface of his patients.
Dr. Barnett has authored several book chapters on surgical technique and clinical imaging. He is an inventor on numerous awarded and pending patents. He has extensively published in the fields of nanotechnology, biomaterials and pharmacology including manuscripts in Science and Nature Medicine. In honor of these efforts he was awarded a Howard Hughes Fellowship, a Pfeiffer Foundation Fellowship and the Claes Dohlman Fellowship. In addition to clinical pursuits, Dr. Barnett enjoys mountain biking and hiking the California wilderness with his wife Kristen and Yorkie, Chester. He is also a lover of music and film, and plays guitar, bass and drums.
