A West Coaster, Dr. Jay Rudd received his bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, graduating magna cum laude. For his ophthalmology residency, he stayed in Philadelphia to train at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital. Following residency, Dr. Rudd underwent subspecialty training in cornea/refractive surgery at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Rudd made the move to Olympia, Washington in 2000, returning to the West Coast and started working in private practice as Thurston County’s first cornea/refractive surgery specialist. HIs practice has evolved to focus on the joys of helping people free themselves from the need for glasses. At AuroraLASIK, he uses state-of-the-art technology for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), advanced photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), implantable collamer lenses (Evo ICL), and refractive lens exchange (RLE). Throughout his career, Dr. Rudd has participated in many FDA trials studying the latest technology with advanced multifocal intraocular lens design.
Outside of work, Dr. Rudd commits time to community philanthropy, serving on many non-profit boards, including Providence St. Peter Hospital, Saint Martin’s University,, Pope John Paul II High School, St. Michael Parish School, Hand-on Children’s Museum, along with traveling internationally for charitable medical missions. He and his wife, Carla, received recognition for their philanthropic efforts, including the 2012 Archdiocese of Seattle’s Archbishop Award and South Sound Partners in Philanthropy’s Couple of the Year in 2013. Dr. Rudd and Carla have three children — Justin, Allyson, and Lindsay – and are proud to call Olympia home.
